Biography:
María Carrera was born in Madrid, where she continues to live and work.
 
Education:
María Carrera graduated from the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid.

María is now the Head of the Fine Arts Department at the Universidad de Complutense, the premier higher education institution in Spain.
 
Honour:
María is now widely recognized as one of the leading figurative artists of our time, worldwide.

Since the 1960s, María has constantly been awarded some of the most prominant prizes for painting in Spain. Some of her latest awards include:

1987: Gran Premio Francisco de Goya Madrid.

Premio Nacional Cajas de Ahorros Madrid.

BMW Gold Medal Madrid.

III Premio Crítica de Arte Madrid.

1988: Premio de la Crítica Madrid.

- Premio Nacional Caja Postal.

As well as participating in numerous artistic organizations and activities her commissions include works made for the Spanish royal familly.
