| Hanoi, Vietnam, 1970 – Vietnamese EMERGING artist, Thanh VanĀ“s art is influenced by IMPRESSIONISM and Hanoi, his hometown. Trained at the Hanoi College of Fine Arts (1994), this young artist was captivated by impressionist paintings since early days, and spent most of his student time exploring the streets of the old quarter in Hanoi where many artists have found inspiration before him. Even though he now lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the artist comments “ My soul and who I am belongs to Hanoi, a place I can never forget. The place is full of love, compassion, and the romance of the four seasons…”. Thanh Van paints colourful, rich canvases of impressionistic scenes from Hanoi's streets and people's daily lives, paying special attention to the movements of the people. His vibrant brushstrokes evoke feelings of a dreamlike, romantic era that is fast becoming extinct. Thanh Van has participated in several shows in Vietnam and also in France (1997), Germany (1998), Netherlands (1998), Singapore (1999), and Hong Kong (2001). One of his paintings was recently (October, 2002) sold at Sotheby's Auction in Singapore. |
