Biography:
|
| Thomas Dellacroix (Stockholm, Sweden, 1953 - )
Agnieszka Dellfina (Warsaw, Poland, 1974 - ) Thomas DELLACROIX (Dellert) has for the last twenty years been working with various art forms such as painting, collage, sculpture, photography and installation, as well as music, video and poetry. He has designed costumes and sets for theatre and television, book covers, opera posters and record sleeves, as well as art for the Absolut Vodka project.
He has had over 50 exhibitions in and around Europe and the United States. During his early years as an artist working and living in New York, he moved in the same circle of artists as Jean Michael Basquiat, and Keith Haring. His friendship with the legendary Andy Warhol gave way to mutual inspiration, and resulted in a series of silk-screens based on Warhol and his Factory. In this tradition most of his art deals with 20th century history and, like the works of John Hartfield, one can see both a serious criticism of our society and its political and commercial aims, but also a great portion of irony and humour.
In the beginning of his career he worked as an actor at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, under the direction of Ingmar Bergman. He played both Shakespeare and Strindberg, and as a musical artist he played principal parts in musicals like Les Miserables, Me and My girl, Miss Saigon, Two for the seesaw and the cult musical - The Rocky Horror Show, which he also directed in the 1983 Stockholm production.
In the late Seventies he was one of the original punk rockers with his band The Resistance. Having been a friend of Sid Vicious (Sex Pistols) he was later portrayed in the movie Sid & Nancy.
Thomas has also written and directed many cabarets and night-club acts, most recently at the famous fetish-club Torture Garden, and at the Kabaret- club in Soho, London.
Thomas Dellacroix has also for many years been singing the repertoire of Frank Sinatra. A CD based on this material, as well as a tribute to French poet and songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, made in collaboration with Agnieszka Dellfina, will soon be released, under the ironic synonym, Tommy Dollar, which was once given to him by Andy Warhol.
Agnieszka DELLFINA is a visual artist, photographer, fashion and graphic designer and stylist. She comes from an old artist, painter family - Brodowsky. As a young girl she was an elite gymnast and acrobat, representing her country internationally. In 1999, she graduated with a Masters Degree in Marketing and Management from the Economics Department of Warsaw University. During her last two years, she attended “Warsaw Collage of Fine Art and Design” where she completed a diploma as a Fashion Designer and Stylist. At the same time she took private painting lessons.
She started her career in Poland as a fashion designer, stylist and make-up artist. She has presented her haute couture and ready-to-wear collections in many different fashion contests as well as group and individual shows at the established theatres and clubs. She collaborated as well with major television channels and fashion magazines. Most of her collections being inspired by different periods of art history.
To continue her career Agnieszka moved to London. While she was working for the fashion houses – “Nicole Farhi” and then “Kassie-G she met Thomas. They instantly started an intensive collaboration leading to exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, video installation and art performance.
The two of them now work under the banner of “Dreamteam”.
THE ARTIST COUPLE COLABORATION
Agnieszka Dellfina and Thomas Dellacroix are two artists working and living together. Their have chosen to express themselves in an unusual way by using their bodies as instruments and canvases. Their joint works deal with subjects like fame, commercialism, politics, war conflicts and mass media. They explore complexity of human nature and deviations of inner landscapes. By re-acting different personalities and historical events of the twentieth century they balance on the thin border between reality and illusion.
Despite their age difference, the artists have found a common platform for their form of expression- thanks to their mutual respect for each other, great love and shared passions. Thomas and Agnieszka claim that through the unique mixture of each one's contribution, they create a more holistic and sincere vision of reality. They have been living in London, Barcelona, Stockholm, Warsaw, and since April 2003 they have made Paris their new home. They have exhibited in Berlin, Wiesbaden, Dusseldorf, Vienna, Barcelona, Paris and several times in London. They belong to the group of modern artists fighting for peace. Their anti-war images were presented at the prestigious Kowasa Gallery, March 2003. They were projected on Barcelona’s buildings in the project “Arte contra a la Guerra”, and are included among 120 other works, in a newly published book about art for peace.
