| Javier Ruisánchez graduated in Painting and Sculpture Restoration and Conservation, from the University of PaÃs Vasco. He now teaches Graphic Communication and Illustration at the Arts School in Valladolid, Castilla y León, Spain. |

| By ILUSTRISMO-ILLUSTRISM, we understand the attempt to raise illustration to the same level as painting. It is to transfer a small element from the small arts into the fine arts, to oppose a dichotomy as this has been the traditional distinction between these two arts. This, the intention of placing illustration on pictorial bases, is new and may be considered a reaction against the painting-painting. |
