| Barcelona, 1925 - One of contemporary Spain’s best regarded artist, Modest Cuixart is well known for his EXPRESSIONIST works. Alonf with other famous Spanish artists, Brossa, Ponç, Tà pies and Tharrats, Cuixart founded the leading avant-garde group, the legendary DAU AL SET. In 1959, he received the 1st Prize at the Sao Paolo Bienal and was awarded with Spain’s most important awards like the CROSS OF SANT JORDI, the MEDAL OF ISABEL, THE CATHOLIC and THE GOLD MEDAL OF THE CITY OF BARCELONA. His work has progressed from EXPRESSIONISM to ABSTRACT to INFORMEL, which has often led to comparisons between his work and the actual evolution of contemporary art in Spain, during the second half of the 20th century.
